Brussels, July 15, 2026

The EU member states have suspended the automatic adjustment of the price cap on Russian oil, which had been scheduled for mid-July, until July 23, 2026, thereby sending a provisional signal in the dispute over the 21st sanctions package against Russia.

According to diplomats, representatives of the member states agreed to suspend an automatic adjustment that had actually been due this Wednesday until July 23. Without the suspension, the current price ceiling of 44.1 US dollars per barrel (159 liters) would now have had to be raised significantly. The suspension is intended as an interim solution.
