Brussels, 10 June 2026
The European Commission on Tuesday rejected Apple's request to obtain an exemption of at least 18 months from the Digital Markets Act (DMA) rules for its new Siri AI voice assistant, which Apple is refusing to launch in the European Union.
Brussels rejects the exemption request
At a press briefing in Brussels, a Commission spokesperson stated that it was a decision of « Apples und wirklich nur Apples » and that « le droit de l'UE n'est pas négociable ». The Commission will make no exception, just as a police officer would not exempt a driver from respecting the speed limit. According to Brussels, granting such an exemption would mean that other voice assistants would have no chance of competing with Siri on the iPhone.
