In the 21st EU sanctions package against Russia, the EU Commission is planning to halve imports of Alaska pollock from Russia within two years, a move that is drawing sharp criticism from German manufacturers and the Thünen Institute.
According to research by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, the EU Commission's plans foresee that imports of Alaska pollock from Russia into the EU must be reduced by half within two years. Specifically, the plans provide for capping the import volume immediately upon entry into force of the new sanctions package at the average level of the years 2023 to 2025. After one year, only 75 percent of that volume would be allowed, and after two years, only 50 percent.
