The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing aerospace group Airbus with three billion euros for research and development of new technologies and signed a first loan tranche of one billion euros in Brussels on Monday.
It is the largest corporate financing in the EIB's history to date. The promotional bank, which describes itself as "the world's largest promotional bank" and is the EU institution responsible for long-term financing, signed the agreement with Airbus on Monday in Brussels. A contract for an initial loan tranche of one billion euros was concluded there, the EIB announced.
The total financing of three billion euros is intended to help the group further expand its technological leadership in civil and military aviation, it said. Specifically, the money is to support planned investments by 2030 in cutting-edge technologies and integrated systems for civil aviation as well as security and defense solutions.
