Vienna, May 12, 2026
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 commenced its first semi-final in Vienna on Tuesday, May 12, with 15 countries delivering a mix of energetic and theatrical performances.
Opening Acts and Standout Performances
Moldova opened the show with "Viva, Moldova!," a lively dance track infused with ethnic sounds that left no doubt about its origin. Sweden followed with Felicia’s "My System," described as a "deliberate victory-avoidance song" featuring glittery masks and disco beats. Croatia’s Lelek brought medieval mythology to the stage with "Andromeda," accompanied by dramatic drums and a misheard lyric that some fans joked sounded like "Dromedar."
Greece’s Akylas stood out in a cozy cat costume, delivering a fast-paced mix of capitalism critique and motherly love. His self-ironic approach resonated with fans, placing him second in betting odds. Finland’s Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen combined fiery violin melodies with rock and pop in "Liekinheitin" (Flame Thrower), while Serbia’s metal band Lavina performed "Kraj mene" (Next to Me) in leather-studded outfits.
