A former CIA agent was arrested following an FBI raid on his Virginia home that uncovered 303 gold bars, two million dollars in cash, and 35 luxury watches, according to court documents cited by U.S. media on Thursday.

The Discovery

The seized gold bars each weigh approximately one kilogram, and the total value of the gold is estimated at more than 40 million dollars, or about 34 million euros. The discovery was the culmination of an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of agency funds.

The suspect, who has not been publicly named, is accused of requesting the gold bars and another "considerable" sum of money for "business expenses" between November and March, according to reports. He remains in custody pending a hearing scheduled for June 5.
