In the night of July 22, 2026, several explosions were heard in northeastern Tehran, according to a dpa reporter and Iranian state media, while air defense systems were active in various districts of the city of 15 million inhabitants.

After roughly 40 days of an Israeli-American war against Iran, which began at the end of February and attacked the country from the air for almost 40 days, renewed fighting occurred in the Iranian capital in the night of July 22, 2026. As a dpa reporter from Tehran reported, muffled detonations were heard in the northeast of the sprawling metropolis.

Iranian state media confirmed anti-aircraft fire in several districts of the city. Around 15 million people live in Tehran. The reports suggest that Iranian air defense was responding to an incoming attack or at least maintaining an elevated state of alert.
