A farmer was fatally injured by his own cattle herd on a pasture on Friday in Buch-St. Magdalena in the district of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld.
According to police, the man left his home around 07:00 in the morning to go to a pasture with calves and a breeding bull. Shortly afterwards, he was attacked by the animals there and suffered such severe injuries that he died at the scene. Resuscitation attempts by helpers were unsuccessful.
The incident occurred in Eastern Styria in the municipality of Buch-St. Magdalena. After the alarm was raised, emergency services responded and confirmed the farmer's death. The exact circumstances that led to the attack by the cattle are the subject of the ongoing investigation.
Investigation by the Graz Public Prosecutor's Office
The Graz public prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation to clarify the exact sequence of events. Among other things, the investigation will examine how the animals behaved on the pasture and what external circumstances led to the incident.
