A motorhome drove into the end of a traffic jam on the A3 near Elz in the Limburg-Weilburg district on Wednesday afternoon, almost without braking, resulting in the death of the 43-year-old driver and serious injuries to his wife and two children.

According to a police spokeswoman, the motorhome crashed into the traffic jam at around 1:18 PM in the direction of Frankfurt and collided with a semi-trailer truck. The impact occurred "almost without braking," as reported by the police. The 43-year-old driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.

His 35-year-old wife and their nine-year-old daughter were trapped in the completely destroyed front section of the motorhome and had to be freed by the fire department. Both were flown by rescue helicopters to nearby hospitals. According to current police information, there is no life-threatening danger for the three injured family members.
