Fatal traffic accident on the B20 in Gollrad: Car driver dies in rollover

The truck driver survived the collision physically uninjured according to current findings. He was cared for by emergency personnel. The exact circumstances that led to the accident are the subject of the ongoing investigation.

The B20, the Seebergstraße, is an important connecting road in the Upper Styria area and leads in the direction of Seeberg and onward to the Czech Republic. It is curvy in this section and particularly accident-prone in wintry conditions and changeable weather.

B20 as an accident-prone route

The emergency services closed off the B20 in the area of the accident site for the duration of the recovery and investigation work. Traffic was diverted locally. There were considerable disruptions on the already heavily used route.

The police have begun investigations into the exact course of the accident. Experts are to clarify why the car drifted onto the opposing lane and collided with the truck.

The recovery of the wreckage and the truck took several hours. Both vehicles had to be removed from the roadway with heavy equipment, as the car had been severely damaged by the rollovers.

On social media, many residents of Upper Styria expressed their dismay over the fatal accident. Many called again for the expansion of safety infrastructure on the B20, such as the construction of guard rails or speed limits in accident-prone sections.
