Fatal Workplace Accident in Wolfsberg im Schwarzautal: Truck Driver Struck and Killed by Stone Slabs

For reasons that have so far not been clarified, the ton-heavy natural stone slabs tipped off the cargo bed and struck the 60-year-old in the chest area. "Sie trafen den Mann mit voller Wucht im Bereich des Brustkorbes," the police statement said. The man suffered life-threatening injuries.

Rescue Efforts Without Success

An emergency physician, who was immediately alerted, promptly took over emergency medical first aid. "Trotz notfallmedizinischer Erstversorgung durch einen Notarzt verstarb der Mann noch an der Unfallstelle," the Styrian State Police Directorate stated. All efforts by the rescue services were unsuccessful.

According to current findings, it has not been clarified why the massive stone slabs tipped off the cargo bed. The investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing. Whether technical defects in the load securing, a shifting of the load, or other circumstances played a role is the subject of the ongoing investigations.

The victim is a 60-year-old truck driver who was professionally transporting and delivering natural stone slabs at the time of the accident. According to the police report, the stone slabs weighed several tons. Due to their weight and the force of the impact, the man suffered fatal injuries to the chest.

The emergency services were alerted immediately after the accident. In addition to the emergency physician, rescue personnel were deployed. After the deceased was recovered, the accident site in Wolfsberg im Schwarzautal, a small locality in the Leibnitz district in southeastern Styria, was secured by police for further investigations.

The Styrian State Police Directorate has initiated investigations into the exact course of the workplace accident. Among other things, the investigations are to clarify how the ton-heavy load was secured and under what conditions the unloading took place. The question of whether other persons were involved in the accident or whether the driver was alone at work is also part of the investigations.
