Alois Rainer has announced financial support for agriculture in light of harvest losses in several federal states, also referring to planned low-interest programs from the Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank.
The Federal Agriculture Minister made the announcement in response to reports of significant harvest shortfalls that farmers in various regions of Germany have had to endure this year. According to industry associations, both arable farms and special crops are affected. The exact damage assessments are still being compiled.
According to the ministry, both short-term liquidity aid and medium-term adjustment measures to changing climatic conditions are planned. The Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank is reportedly planning a second program with interest rates of around one percent to facilitate affected farms' access to affordable financing.
