Federal Agriculture Minister Rainer presents "Heimat Agenda" in Brandenburg

Goals: Cohesion and equivalent living conditions

With the agenda, Rainer aims to promote cohesion, equivalent living conditions, and economic strength throughout Germany. In doing so, the ministry formulates programmatic goals that apply equally to urban and rural regions.

Regarding the significance of rural areas, the ministry pointed to statistical foundations. According to these, 57 percent of people in Germany live in rural regions. These regions also contribute 47 percent to the gross national product.

Economic significance of rural areas

In addition, the ministry pointed to the economic structure of rural areas, where numerous small and medium-sized firms are based. These companies are regarded as an important pillar of regional value creation.

With the presentation of the Heimat Agenda, the ministry intends, according to its own statements, to lay the programmatic foundation for future work in this policy field. The agenda is to serve as a guiding framework for measures that strengthen cohesion between cities and countryside.

The summer tour through eastern German federal states offers the minister, according to ministry information, the opportunity to engage directly with local stakeholders. Chorin in Brandenburg was one of the stops.
