The federal government is providing a total of 7.72 million euros in 2026 for the maintenance and modernization of alpine infrastructure in Austria, as Tourism State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner and Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig (both ÖVP) announced on Saturday.

Funding Priorities and Allocation of Resources

The funding flows into investments for the maintenance, modernization, and sustainable further development of mountain huts and other alpine infrastructure. The basis is the Austrian CAP Strategic Plan 2023–2027, within the framework of which the funds are awarded. In doing so, the federal government continues its support of the alpine associations, which play a central role in Austria in maintaining the trail network and operating the huts.
