Berlin, July 8, 2026

The Budget Committee of the Bundestag decided in a non-public session to back a major order from the struggling Meyer Werft with a billion-euro federal guarantee, as reported by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa).

The decision is an important signal for the future of Meyer Werft, which has been in an ongoing restructuring process since its rescue in 2024. The planned order is expected to keep the shipyard utilized until 2035 and is described as a central building block for the company's medium-term prospects.

According to information broadcast on Deutschlandfunk on July 8, 2026, the Swiss shipping company MSC plans to order four to six cruise ships. "Die Schweizer Reederei MSC will vier bis sechs Kreuzfahrtschiffe in Auftrag geben", the report continues. With an order volume of up to ten billion euros, Meyer Werft would be utilized for several years.
