Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on the occasion of Cologne's Gamescom, demanded clear rules against the glorification of violence as well as against extremist and anti-democratic content in computer and video games, while also warning young players about raw violence in some titles.
Steinmeier made his remarks at an event in Cologne, where Gamescom — one of the world's largest trade fairs for computer and video games — runs through Sunday. He tied his demand to a broader societal diagnosis: democracy is currently more threatened and more contested than in previous years. For that reason, vigilance must also be exercised in the area of gaming.
