Munich, June 26, 2026
A demonstration by citizens' initiatives will lead to a complete closure of the B179 at the Fernpass between Reutte and Nassereith on June 27, 2026, blocking a central north-south travel route during the summer holidays for two hours.
The closure of the B179 at the Fernpass applies from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., according to the police and ADAC Südbayern. During this period, the federal road between Reutte and Nassereith in Tyrol is closed to all traffic. The demonstration follows similar protest actions at the Brenner, which had already caused significant disruptions on the north-south axis in recent weeks.
Compared to the lengthy Brenner closure, however, the action at the Fernpass is considerably shorter. As Seebacher explains: "Es ist nicht annähernd vergleichbar mit der langen Sperre am Brenner". The two-hour blockade is, according to observers' assessments, less far-reaching, but is still likely to hit travel traffic hard in the late morning.
