At the kickoff of the Soccer World Cup in North America, the USA continues to lose its appeal among German emigrants, while Mexico is the only one of the three host countries becoming more popular.

The Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden has released current migration figures ahead of the start of the Soccer World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico beginning Thursday. According to the data, approximately 8,900 Germans moved to the USA last year – the lowest level of the past twenty years with the exception of the Corona years 2020 and 2021. "Das sei mit Ausnahme der Corona-Jahre 2020 und 2021 der tiefste Stand der vergangenen 20 Jahre," the statisticians explained.
