Net immigration to Germany in 2025 decreased by 45 percent compared to the previous year, to 235,000 people, according to new data from the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden.

In total, the authority recorded around 1.48 million arrivals in Germany, a decrease of 13 percent compared to 2024. At the same time, the number of departures fell slightly by about two percent to 1.25 million. The resulting migration balance was therefore significantly lower than in previous years.

The statisticians cited lower immigration from the main countries of origin for asylum seekers as a significant reason for the decline. For example, 41 percent fewer people came from Afghanistan than in 2024. Numbers also decreased from Syria, another important country of origin.
