FIFA has rejected the allegation that the ball touched an overhead cable before Jude Bellingham's equalizer in the 45th+2 minute, following England's 2-1 victory over Norway in the World Cup quarterfinal in Miami.

FIFA sensor shows no contact

The Norwegian team had complained to French referee Clement Turpin because they believed the ball had brushed against a cable in the air, altering its trajectory. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not intervene, the game was not stopped, and the goal stood. FIFA has now explained that the sensor built into the ball did not register any increase in the so-called "heartbeat of the ball" while it was in the air. "Before England's goal in the 45th+2 minute against Norway, the sensor did not show any increase in the 'heartbeat of the ball' while it was in the air, and therefore there was no indication that the ball touched the overhead cable and thereby altered its trajectory," the world governing body stated.
