The Berlin fire department extinguished a fire at a substation in Berlin-Tiergarten on Monday, after traffic lights and other infrastructure had previously failed in parts of the city.
Background: The Incident
The Berlin fire department extinguished a fire at a substation in Berlin-Tiergarten on Monday. This was confirmed by Berlin's Police President Barbara Slowik Meisel to the media on the day of the incident.
Due to the outage of the grid operator 50Hertz, traffic light systems failed in parts of Berlin, among other things. Other infrastructure was also affected by the fire.
A spokesperson for the Berlin Senate Department for Transport stated that the traffic lights would be switched back on. "Die Ampeln würden nun wieder eingeschaltet - in den meisten Fällen laufe das aus der Ferne, nur bei einigen wenigen müsse das händisch erfolgen, sagte eine Sprecherin.
