According to a fire brigade spokesperson, the gondola initially became stuck on the facade at the level of the 44th floor. It then came loose, creating a life-threatening situation for the two workers. The men were pulled up individually eleven floors by a cable winch and brought to safety, the spokesperson added.

A technical defect was presumably present on the gondola, the fire brigade said. More detailed information on the cause was not initially available. The emergency services also initially provided no further details on the health condition of the two rescued men.
