Sölk, July 12, 2026
In the municipality of Sölk in the district of Liezen, a wolf officially authorized for culling by the authorities in Styria was shot for the first time on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Official Confirmation
The State of Styria confirmed the shooting of the animal. As the state announced in a press release, the wolf was brought down in the municipal area of Sölk on Sunday. This marks the first time that an officially authorized animal has been killed since the wolf's return to Styria.
The culling authorization had been issued at the beginning of July after repeated wolf detections and several confirmed livestock kills had occurred in the area around the Gumpeneck since May. In at least three documented incidents, a total of more than ten sheep were killed. One wolf had verifiably killed over ten sheep in the area.
