The Landeck district authority has issued a new culling order for a wolf for the municipal area of Pfund in the Landeck district after sheep were killed once again in the Kaunertal.

The order was issued on Monday and is directed against a single animal that, according to the authority's assessment, is to be regarded as the cause of the killings in the Kaunertal. The exact trigger and the scope of the order were not specified in detail in the official communication; however, it applies for a limited period to the municipal area of Pfund. The authority invoked the applicable Tyrolean legal framework, which under certain conditions permits the targeted culling of individual wolves.

The background to the new order is several sheep killings in the Kaunertal that are attributed to the wolf. Repeated wolf killings of livestock had already been reported in the Landeck district in recent months. The State of Tyrol has for some time pursued a line under which individual wolves classified as causing damage can be authorised for culling, provided certain procedural requirements are met.
