During the first bull run of the San Fermín festival in Pamplona, in northern Spain, five runners were injured on Tuesday, three of whom were taken to hospitals.
Course and Route of the Bull Run
According to the state television broadcaster RTVE, the injuries were predominantly bruises; no severe injuries caused by the bulls' long, pointed horns were reported. However, three participants had to be taken to hospitals for further treatment.
Every morning during the festival, six fighting bulls weighing over 600 kilograms each are driven together with several tame oxen through the narrow streets of Pamplona's old town to the arena, where bullfights take place in the afternoon. The bull run course measures approximately 825 meters.
