At the third bull run of this year's San Fermín festival in Pamplona, at least 13 runners were injured by bulls on Thursday, including a 29-year-old American who suffered a goring to the left arm. As the organizers announced, all those injured were taken to hospitals. In total, all of those injured reportedly identified themselves as men between the ages of 18 and 68.
The traditional run follows a course of approximately 825 meters every year through the narrow streets of the old town of Pamplona in northern Spain. Each morning, six fighting bulls, some weighing more than 600 kilograms, are driven through the city together with tame oxen, before being used in the bullfighting arena in the late afternoon. During the acts of courage carried out primarily by young men, runners are regularly injured.
