The consumer organization Foodwatch has criticized McDonald's Austria after children aged eight, eleven, and 14 were served a caffeinated energy drink without any age inquiry during test purchases at Vienna locations.
Test purchase in Vienna and surrounding area
As the NGO announced on Friday in a press release, a so-called "Tropical Energy Refresher" was handed to the underage test purchasers at McDonald's locations in Vienna and the surrounding area. The children were not asked about their age. Foodwatch Austria spoke of a failure on the company's part and called for a legal age limit for the sale of caffeinated beverages to children and adolescents.
