A recent investigation by consumer organization Foodwatch has uncovered residues of banned pesticides in rice, tea, and paprika powder sold in European supermarkets.
Widespread Contamination
Foodwatch tested 64 food products across Austria, Germany, France, and the Netherlands, finding 30 residues of prohibited pesticides in 10 items. Four products exceeded legal limits for pesticide residues, prompting calls for their immediate recall.
Paprika powder showed particularly high contamination levels. Kotányi Paprika Edelsüß Spezial contained seven different pesticide residues, while Le Gusto Paprika edelsüß gemahlen had five. All tested green teas contained at least two unauthorized pesticides.
