The Romanian Football Federation has announced the death of former national team player Gabriel Muresan at the age of 44 and expressed its condolences to the family.

The Romanian Football Federation announced on its website that it had learned of Gabriel Muresan's death "with great sadness." "Der rumänische Fußballverband spricht der Familie, den Freunden und allen, die Gabriel Muresan kannten, sein tiefstes Beileid aus," the statement said, which the federation also disseminated through its channels. According to the announcement, Muresan died in tragic circumstances, without the federation initially providing further details.
Career at CFR Cluj
Muresan spent the longest period of his professional career at CFR Cluj, where he was one of the defining players of a successful era between 2007 and 2013. During this phase, the defensive midfielder won the Romanian league title three times and the Romanian Cup three times with the club. With the club from Cluj-Napoca, he also established himself internationally in European competitions.
Beyond his club career, Muresan was part of the Romanian national team squad and also featured for the national side. As a defensive midfielder, he was regarded as a robust and tactically disciplined player who subordinated himself to the collective and served as a stabilizing factor for the team over many years.
