Former Signa Project "Lamarr" in Vienna Now Called "Grand Museum Residences"

The project website advertises an "exclusive overall concept" that, in addition to apartments with living spaces ranging from 35 to 270 square meters, also includes a five-star hotel and "luxurious rooftop gardens." In the rear part of the complex, a roughly 1,000-square-meter rooftop park with no obligation to consume is also planned.

High Demand for Apartments

Demand for the apartments is already high, according to project spokesperson Stefan Zöser. "Es gebe bereits Hunderte Vormerkungen," he said recently to the "Salzburger Nachrichten," which was the first to report on the new brand appearance, and to "Standard."

From Signa Prestige Project to the Stumpf Era

The project is closely tied to the downfall of René Benko's Signa Group, which had once launched the venture as a prestige project. After Signa's collapse, a successor solution had to be found in order to continue the construction already begun on Mariahilfer Straße in the Neubau district.

With the renaming and the new brand appearance, the Stumpf Group apparently wants to signal a clear fresh start. The location is considered one of the most sought-after inner-city sites in Vienna, which is also reflected in the numerous pre-registrations. The concept combines residential, hotel, and retail uses in the immediate vicinity of the Museumsquartier.

Outlook on Completion

The "Grand Museum Residences" are set to help shape the character of the neighborhood between Mariahilfer Straße and the Museumsquartier, according to the information provided. The planned mix of condominium apartments, a hotel, and retail space is aimed at an upscale clientele. Critics had previously called for greater consideration of subsidized housing, which is not provided for in the current concept.

Construction work on the complex is continuing, according to the Stumpf Group. A completion date has not been mentioned in previous reports. The new brand appearance is presented by those responsible for the project as an important step in reviving the location following the insolvency of the original investor.

Observers also view the renaming as a symbolic step toward distancing the project from the former Signa image. With the new name and the extensive mix of uses, the Stumpf Group apparently wants to establish an independent brand that points beyond the project's previous history.
