Former Tatort detective Andreas Hoppe has died

His colleague Ulrike Folkerts, who played lead detective Lena Odenthal on the Tatort set, expressed deep shock. The shared time on the Ludwigshafen production ended after 21 years in 2018 with Hoppe's last case. Thereafter, Hoppe had withdrawn from the role of Mario Kopper but remained connected to the ARD family as a guest in other productions and on stage.

Reactions from the ARD family

SWR, which produces the Ludwigshafen Tatort episodes, honored Hoppe as a defining actor of the broadcaster. The holder of the director-generalship is, according to the broadcaster, Kai Gniffke, who also commented on the loss and highlighted Hoppe's work for public-service television.

Industry colleagues described Hoppe as a versatile artist who, alongside the crime series, also pursued theater work and other film projects. At the acting school, which he attended from 1982 to 1986 and where Folkerts also studied, he had, according to his colleague, taken the first steps toward the stage.

Through the role of Mario Kopper, Hoppe became known to a million-strong audience.
