The FPÖ has sharply criticized the planned 2027/28 double budget of the Austrian federal government, composed of the ÖVP, SPÖ, and NEOS, and announced its rejection in the National Council.
The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) has leveled sharp criticism at the government's planned austerity measures ahead of the upcoming National Council vote on the 2027/28 double budget. Budget spokesperson Arnold Schiefer said at a press conference on Monday that the budget on the table "keines der eigentlichen Probleme." The FPÖ will reject the budget as a whole, even though it will probably be able to agree with "einen oder anderen" chapter.
Criticism of Missing Reforms
Schiefer mainly objected that essential structural reforms were absent. "Schulden und Zinszahlungen würden weiter steigen, die großen Reformen fehlen," the budget spokesperson criticized the budget plans of the coalition partners ÖVP, SPÖ, and NEOS. From the Freedom Party's perspective, many of the contemplated measures are a "linke Tasche, rechte Tasche" game — that is, merely a shifting of financial burdens within the budget without real savings.
