Frankfurt Airport's New Skyline Train Out of Service for Weeks for Technical Adjustments

The intensive operation since the line's launch in April, with up to 25,000 passengers and visitors daily, has made the technical adjustments necessary, Fraport stated.

The 5.6-kilometer, roughly 500-million-euro system is designed to carry up to 4,000 people per hour, with each driverless train holding 130 passengers and reaching speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour. A full trip normally takes about eight minutes.

Alexander Heinrich, operations manager for the Skyline train at Fraport AG, emphasized the company's commitment to service quality. "Unser Ziel ist es, allen Nutzerinnen und Nutzern ein zuverlässiges, komfortables und sicheres Verkehrsmittel zu bieten," Heinrich said.

Replacement Bus Service Deployed

During the disruption, the airport is deploying up to 20 shuttle buses to ferry passengers between Terminals 1, 2, and 3. Between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., the buses will run every ten minutes.

The existing Skyline train service between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 is not affected by the problems and remains fully operational, Fraport confirmed.

The new line, which only began service a few weeks ago, is a key piece of infrastructure for the airport's expansion, linking the new Terminal 3 to the existing terminals.

Impact on Passengers and Airport Operations

Passengers traveling through Frankfurt Airport are advised to allow extra time for terminal transfers and to follow signage for the replacement bus service.

Fraport has not disclosed the exact nature of the technical issues but indicated that the adjustments are part of ensuring the long-term reliability of the automated people-mover system.
