Vienna, July 10, 2026

The Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV) has added Freeride as an official division starting with the 2026/27 season, responding to the inclusion of the discipline in the Olympic program beginning in 2030.

The decision was made on the sidelines of the ÖSV national conference and was communicated in a federation release. With the new division, the ÖSV aims to sustainably develop and professionalize the sport of freeride in Austria. "Mit Blick auf die olympische Zukunft wollen wir den Freeridesport in Österreich nachhaltig weiterentwickeln und professionell aufstellen", the statement said.

The background is a decision by the International Olympic Committee to include freeride in the Winter Games program. At the 2030 Winter Games in the French Alps, four freeride events with a total of 44 athletes are planned. This gives the discipline a sports-political stage that extends far beyond the previous World Cup circuit.
