Nanterre, June 11, 2026

The French judiciary has charged the singer and actor Patrick Bruel (67) with, among other things, rape, attempted rape, sexual coercion and sexual harassment, as the responsible judge in Nanterre near Paris announced on Wednesday evening.

Status of the proceedings

Nearly two dozen women have accused the artist, who is considered a star in France, of sexual violence. According to one of his lawyers, however, the judge ruled below the request of the prosecution, which had also demanded beforehand that Bruel be taken into pre-trial detention. Instead, Bruel remains free under judicial supervision.

The prosecution had also demanded beforehand that Bruel be taken into pre-trial detention. The judge did not follow this request, as one of the singer's lawyers announced. As a result, the 67-year-old will not be detained for the time being, but must comply with conditions imposed by the judiciary.
