Match overview: Cologne Arena stages a thrilling semifinal
Füchse Berlin defeated German champions SC Magdeburg 40:35 (19:17) in the semifinal of the handball Champions League Final Four, thus reaching the final for the second consecutive year, as was the case last year at the Final Four in Cologne. 20,122 spectators in the Cologne Arena saw an explosive yet evenly matched handball duel that only tipped in favor of Berlin in the closing stages.
The Füchse took their first two-goal lead only in the 16th minute (8:10), after Magnus Saugstrup failed to convert a clear chance against Berlin goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev. The team coached by Bennet Wiegert even extended the advantage to three goals following a Magdeburg turnover (10:13/18th minute). Berlin led 19:17 at halftime.
