The fill levels of German gas storage facilities have reached the lowest level in years, according to industry sources, while consumer advocates warn of rising gas prices.

Germany's gas storage facilities are filled as low as they have not been in years, according to information from the industry association INES. The industry association pointed to the tense situation in its press release "Versorgungssicherheit Gas" from July 2026 and at the same time called for political measures to secure supply in the coming winter. According to this, storage fill levels are significantly below the values of comparable previous years.

The Bundesnetzagentur confirmed the current state of gas supply in Germany and also referred to the national gas reserve, which has been designed by the federal government. This is to be used in defined crisis situations. Kerstin Andreae expressly welcomed the reserve. "Die von der Bundesregierung konzipierte nationale Gasreserve begrüßte Andreae. Diese solle in festgelegten Krisenfällen eingesetzt werden", heißt es in den zitierten Quellen.
