Germany's Economics Ministry has appealed to gas traders to address low storage levels ahead of the coming winter, citing reduced buffers for exceptional supply situations.

The ministry's intervention comes as storage facilities across Germany sit at levels that officials describe as tight, raising concerns about the country's ability to absorb simultaneous shocks to its energy supply. In comments reported across multiple outlets, ministry representatives stressed that current reserves leave less margin to respond to unusual events than in previous years.

According to the ministry, lower storage levels reduce the buffer available for exceptional situations, a concern that becomes acute if multiple stresses coincide. Officials specifically cited the combination of a prolonged cold spell with the failure of important import infrastructure or additional disruptions on the international LNG market.
