Production in Germany's manufacturing sector rose by 0.9 percent in May 2026 compared to the previous month of April, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, as the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced in Wiesbaden.
Total production rose by 0.9 percent compared to the previous month of April, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects. This increase was significantly higher than expected: the experts surveyed by Bloomberg had on average expected an increase of just 0.1 percent.
Automotive industry as the main driver
The positive development in production in May 2026 is largely attributable to growth in the automotive industry. According to Destatis, the automotive sector contributed a plus of 3.6 percent. The construction sector also contributed to the overall result with an increase of 0.9 percent, while energy production rose by 0.8 percent.
