Orders received in German industry rose in May by 1.9 percent compared to the previous month, seasonally and calendar-adjusted, as the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Monday in Wiesbaden.
As a result, order intake recovered noticeably after the setback in April. In the previous month, orders had still declined, with statisticians revising the drop from 3.8 percent to 3.2 percent, as Destatis further reported: "Die Statistiker revidierten den Rückgang von 3,8 Prozent auf 3,2 Prozent.
Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had expected only a gain of just over one percent for May. With the increase of 1.9 percent, the result was significantly better than forecast.
