Germany and France have for the first time put their nuclear cooperation, agreed in March, into practical effect with a joint air force exercise at the Nörvenich air base near Cologne.
With a joint air force exercise, Germany and France have for the first time translated into practice the cooperation on nuclear deterrence agreed in March. Two French Rafale fighter jets, which can be equipped with nuclear weapons, and two Bundeswehr Eurofighters took part in the maneuver. This was reported by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
The jets practiced aerial refueling from a French tanker aircraft, immediately ahead of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Germany. The maneuver represents the first visible step of a broader cooperation set to be launched at the Franco-German Ministerial Council in Brühl.
