German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) traveled to the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott on Monday and held talks there with his counterpart Mohamed Merzoug on closer economic and security policy cooperation.

Wadephul met with Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Merzoug in Nouakchott on the first day of a four-day trip to Africa. According to information from the Federal Foreign Office, cooperation between the two countries is to be expanded in the areas of economy and security. According to reports, Merzoug underlined his country's readiness to cooperate more closely with Germany in the fields of renewable energies, liquefied natural gas (LNG), security, defense, and infrastructure.
