Germany's U19 women lost 0:1 to Spain in the European Championship final in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday, falling short of a first title in 15 years.

A familiar Spanish hurdle

The team coached by Melanie Behringer went into the final as underdogs against a Spain side widely regarded as favourites. After a goalless first half in which Germany held firm, Irune Dorado of Real Madrid broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, converting from close range after a corner. The Spanish side controlled the remainder of the match and limited Germany to no clear chances of an equaliser.

The loss ends Germany's bid for a first European title at this age level in 15 years. Spain, who also beat Germany in the 2023 final on penalties, again proved a step too far. Dorado's goal was the difference on a night when Spain's superior depth and possession told over 90 minutes.
