Gmunden, 16 June 2026
The Upper Austrian manufacturer Gmundner Keramik has entered into a technology cooperation with US expert Kevin Scott in order to more closely interlink craftsmanship and modern technology.
The partnership was presented on Monday in Gmunden on Lake Traun. Gmundner Keramik, whose origins date back to the year 1492, thus combines – according to its own statements – one of Austria's oldest ceramics workshops with current technology expertise. Kevin Scott, who has served as Microsoft's technology chief since 2017, himself discovered pottery a few years ago, according to the company's announcement, and is now bringing this enthusiasm into the collaboration.
"Ceramik fasziniert mich seit Jahren – ich töpfere selbst", Scott is quoted as saying in the press release. This personal passion had been the starting point for the planned cooperation, it was stated. The company emphasizes that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to keep the Gmunden location attractive for young skilled workers in the long term.
