Google on Wednesday unveiled the Pixel Watch 5, which independently alerts emergency services in life-threatening health emergencies, and announced Fitbit Air, its own Bluetooth tracker designed to compete with Apple's AirTag.

Emergency call without confirmation

The Pixel Watch 5 adds a feature to the company's wearable portfolio that, according to the manufacturer, goes beyond previous safety features: If the watch detects a life-threatening condition in the wearer, it triggers optical and acoustic alarms. If the connected smartphone does not respond for several seconds, the device automatically dials the emergency number. With this, Google primarily wants to appeal to older users and people with chronic illnesses who may no longer be able to reach for a phone themselves in an emergency.
