The young gorilla Jabari celebrated his second birthday at Zoo Schmiding in Krenglbach. According to the zoo, the youngster received a cake made from healthy vegetable ingredients, decorated with two carrots as candles. The aim was to make the festive day both species-appropriate and nutritious.
First, however, it was the head of the gorilla family's turn: the silverback Awembe was allowed to taste the cake first before Jabari himself got to enjoy the treat. The order underlines the hierarchy within the group and was deliberately planned this way by the keepers.
