The Governor of South Carolina, Henry McMaster, has tasked Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of the deceased Senator Lindsey Graham, with assuming his official duties in the U.S. Congress for the remainder of the legislative period.

With the appointment, McMaster is responding to the unexpected death of Lindsey Graham, who had represented South Carolina for many years as a U.S. Senator in Washington. The senator will now be represented by her sister until a special election or other arrangement takes effect. Darline Graham Nordone, who had previously not been in the public spotlight, is thus stepping into her brother's footsteps and taking on one of the politically weightiest roles of the state.
