The National Council's Oversight Committee (GPK-N) accuses the Federal Council and the Defense Department (VBS) under the then leadership of Viola Amherd of a lack of transparency in the procurement of the F-35 fighter jet and establishes that there was never a fixed price for the multi-billion deal.

The oversight committee's criticism carries weight: the GPK-N objects that the government did not sufficiently inform the public and Parliament about the economic framework conditions of the armaments project. At the center is the allegation that the executive's communication created the impression of a fixed-price deal, even though no such price ever existed contractually.

As the committee documents indicate, the VBS allegedly spoke repeatedly of supposedly fixed costs, while internal documents tell a different story. The GPK-N sees this as a failure that violates Parliament's democratic right of oversight. The procurement of the F-35 fighter jet is considered one of the largest armaments deals in the history of the Swiss Armed Forces.
