The Federal Council is defending itself in Bern against the accusation that no appropriate consequences have been drawn from the F-35 procurement so far.
Although there was no fixed price for the F-35 from the outset, the Federal Council does not intend, based on the available information, to draw any corresponding consequences for the procurement. In doing so, the Federal Council is treated as the supervisory and steering body over the F-35 procurement, as well as over the associated contracts and price clauses.
The objection primarily concerns the question of how the programme's financial risks were managed and monitored. The available facts describe the F-35 as «a financial wonder bag». This formulation represents the concern that costs were not firmly capped from the beginning.
