Grabher faces 19-year-old Perelygina in the Kitzbühel round of 16

Generation clash between two Austrians

Both players share the experience of having come through the domestic clay-court season. The matchup was billed by the organizers as a "Generationenduell," as the experienced Grabher faces the considerably younger Perelygina. For spectators on the grounds, it means an early meeting between two Austrians, of whom only one can advance to the quarterfinals.

Alongside this match, two other Austrians are in action in singles on Tuesday. Arabella Koller, who entered the tournament unseeded, takes on Germany's Mona Barthel. Leonie Rabl, meanwhile, faces the Netherlands' Arantxa Rus, who as an unseeded player also pulled off a first-round upset. In total, three Austrian players are still competing in singles on Tuesday.

The tournament's main draw is led by Slovenia's Veronika Erjavec as the number one seed. Behind her, the next seeded players are Sinja Kraus as number two, Tatjana Maria (Germany) as number three, and Grabher as number four. Spain's Marina Bassols Ribera is number five, Czech Republic's Laura Samson number six. Jeline Vandromme of Belgium occupies seventh place, while Greece's Despina Papamichail is the number eight seed.

Seedings and other round-of-16 matchups

Kraus, the second-seeded Austrian, takes on Sweden's Caijsa Hennemann on Tuesday. The Greek number eight seed Papamichail was already eliminated on Monday: she fell to Russia's Erika Andreeva in straight sets, 2:6, 1:6. Andreeva thus advances to the round of 16, as does Serbia's Mia Ristic, who defeated Slovakia's Mia Pohankova 6:3, 7:5.

The total prize money for the clay-court tournament in Kitzbühel amounts to US$115,000. This places the event in the lower category of WTA tournaments, but it offers players valuable world ranking points and, in front of a home crowd, the opportunity to put themselves forward for the bigger stops on the calendar.

Broadcast and prize money

Tuesday's matches will be broadcast live on ORF. According to the organizers, ORF1 begins coverage at 10:50 a.m., with ORF Sport + joining at 1:00 p.m. This gives tennis fans in Austria the chance to follow all appearances by the home players live.

For Grabher, the match against Perelygina is the second major test within two days. After the physical effort against Bertea, the speed of the younger opponent could become the decisive factor. Perelygina showed in her first-round match that she can come back even after losing the first set – an indication of her mental strength.

The duel between Grabher and Perelygina is, in sporting terms, a meeting of two players who could shape the tournament. Should either of them reach the quarterfinals, the semifinals will come within reach, as the further the tournament progresses, the more likely a meeting with one of the higher-seeded players becomes.

Koller and Rabl are also two more Austrians still in the running who entered the tournament unseeded and booked their places in the round of 16 through qualifying or the first round. This means Austrian tennis's next generation remains visible on the tournament's second day in several matches.
